LockTab Privacy Policy
Last updated: 27 September 2026
LockTab is a Chrome extension by GreedHunter Academy that password-protects your Chrome profile, windows and tabs. This policy explains what information LockTab handles and what it does with it.
Summary
LockTab does not collect, transmit, sell or share any personal data. It has no servers, no analytics, no advertising and no user accounts. Everything it stores stays on your device.
What LockTab stores on your device
LockTab uses Chrome's extension storage (chrome.storage.local and
chrome.storage.session) on your computer to keep:
- A password verifier, not your password. When you create a master password, LockTab derives a key from it (PBKDF2-SHA-256, 210,000 iterations, random salt) and stores a small value encrypted with that key (AES-256-GCM). Your password and recovery key are never stored.
- The display name you entered (optional), shown on the lock screen.
- Your settings, such as startup lock, auto-lock time and strict mode.
- Protection state: random identifiers for the tabs and windows you chose to protect, and whether they are currently locked. For locked tabs showing the full-page lock screen, LockTab temporarily keeps the page address so it can take you back after you unlock.
- Failed-attempt counters used for brute-force protection.
For tabs you protect, LockTab also saves a random identifier in that page's sessionStorage
so protection can be restored when Chrome reopens the tab. The identifier contains no personal
information.
What LockTab does not do
- It does not read, collect or change the content of the web pages you visit.
- It does not track your browsing history.
- It does not send any data over the network. LockTab makes no network requests.
- It does not use cookies, analytics or third-party code.
